The region that creates the flavour

This exceptional coffee comes from the Kegwa washing station in the Kirinyaga region, one of Kenya’s most prestigious coffee-growing areas. Production is managed by the New Ngariama Farmers' Cooperative Society, which brings together around 2,000 smallholder farmers. Each farmer cultivates only a few acres of land, but together they produce coffees that regularly rank among the finest in the country.

Coffee plants of the SL28, SL34, and Ruiru 11 varieties grow at altitudes of up to 1,600 metres above sea level on fertile volcanic soils. The cooler climate allows coffee cherries to mature slowly, resulting in exceptional sweetness, intense fruit character, and the distinctive vibrant acidity typical of Kenyan coffees.

The journey to an exceptional cup

Harvesting is carried out exclusively by hand, with only perfectly ripe cherries selected. At the Kegwa station, the cherries are carefully sorted and processed using the traditional fully washed method. After removing the pulp, they undergo fermentation for 12–16 hours, are then washed with clean water, and dried on raised African drying beds to achieve even drying and ideal moisture levels in the beans.

The result is an exceptionally clean and elegant cup with the characteristic fruitiness of Kenyan coffee. Expect juicy notes of blackcurrant, forest fruits, and citrus, complemented by caramel sweetness and a long, refreshing finish. The combination of Kirinyaga’s unique terroir, the dedication of local farmers, and precise processing makes Kegwa AA a coffee that perfectly captures the character of the finest Kenyan specialty lots.
