Black tea
The tradition and power of tea
English Breakfast was neither designed nor specially blended many years ago. Teas were selected primarily based on availability and price, as well as their suitability for consumption with milk and sugar – exactly how a typical Englishman would enjoy them at the start of a busy day. In the early 19th century, this primarily involved black tea from China. Later, many Britons preferred the more lively teas from British colonies in India and Ceylon, and after World War II, when the colonies gained independence, Africa became the main source of English Breakfast for Britain. It is this history and African teas that inspired our HT English Breakfast.
